Resident Assistant (RA) 

A Resident Assistant (RA) is a trained student leader who works to create and maintain a supportive community for residential students. Each RA is assigned to work within a specific community of students within the Residence Halls, Apartments, or International Living Center. RAs host a variety of social, academic, and cultural activities for their residents; act as a resource and mentor; and address any safety or security concerns that occur in their areas. RAs also take turns providing 24-hour emergency on-call support to support students with any safety or security concerns that arise.

CoCo Student Programs Coordinator (SPCs)

SPCs work at the CoCurricular Programs Office ("The CoCo") to create programs centered around College Nine and John R. Lewis College’s themes, in addition to supporting other college-wide programming and collaborations. Previous student programs include the Pass the Plate zine and meal kits, Latin Dance Night, and Self-Love in Bloom pop-ups. This is an hourly position, with most students working an average of 10 hours per week. SPC applications for the following academic year will open in Spring Quarter and be posted on Handshake. Social Justice and Community CoCurricular Programs CUIP Intern 

The Social Justice and Community CoCurricular Programs Intern works at the CoCurricular Programs Office ("The CoCo") through the Chancellor’s Undergraduate Internship Program). While the Social Justice CoCurricular Programs Intern also supports CoCo and college-wide programming, the John R. Lewis College CUIP works with the College Nine CUIP to host Slugs 4 Self-Care (S4SC) during Fall Quarter, leads the JRLC 85 student facilitators in Winter Quarter, and spends Spring Quarter creating a program of their choosing. CUIPs earn an $8,000 scholarship, with applications for the following academic year open January-February on the CUIP website. For more info, please email coco@ucsc.edu

International Living Center Special Programs Assistant

The ILC Assistant provides coordinates both the Language Tables Program and the International Affairs Group, as well as completing administrative tasks and other special projects related to the management of the ILC. 

Praxis CUIP Intern 

The Praxis CUIP Internship Position provides leadership in the planning and executing of various community service opportunities for students as part of the college's service learning program. For more information, please visit the (H)ACER website

Community Program Assistants (CPAs) 

Community Programs Assistants are part of the College Nine and John R. Lewis College Programs & Activities Team and work under the general supervision of the College Programs Coordinator. The Programs & Activities staff plan and produce community-wide programming at College Nine and John R. Lewis College (College Nights, Dances, etc.), and works collaboratively with other college units, staff at other colleges, departments, and student organizations. The Programs & Activities staff is also primarily responsible for campus-wide programs at College Nine and John R. Lewis College, including Welcome Week and the College Nine and John R. Lewis College Commencement Ceremonies. For a more detailed description, click here.

Fall Planning Assistant (FPA) 

The Fall Planning Assistant is part of the College Nine and John R. Lewis College Programs & Activities Team and work under the general supervision of the College Programs Coordinator. The FPA helps to develop, plan, implement and document Welcome Week at College Nine and John R. Lewis College, as well as student-staff and volunteer training for the Activities Office. The FPA works extensively with the Orientation Leaders, so previous experience as an Orientation Leader is required. The FPA is hired in Spring Quarter, and works through the summer into Fall Quarter. Check back soon for more detailed information.

Spring Planning Assistant (SPA) 

The Spring Planning Assistant is part of the College Nine and John R. Lewis College Programs & Activities Team and works under the general supervision of the College Programs Coordinator (CPC). Working with the CPC and the Assistant CPC, the Spring Planning Assistant helps to plan and implement the College Nine and John R. Lewis College Commencement Ceremonies. The Spring Planning Assistant serves as the first point of contact between the Activities Office and prospective graduates and is heavily involved in the creation of graduation related materials. Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Leader

Upper Division John R Lewis students with experience in service learning through Praxis, Esprit de Corps, or another comparable organization, are invited to apply to lead an ASB in our local Santa Cruz Community over spring break.  Student works closely with (H)ACER in recruiting student participants, interacting with local non-profits, planning the weeklong service activities, developing an educational component, evaluating the trip, and helping to plan the Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at the end of spring quarter.  Two positions are available for stipend.  Apply in the spring (applications due the first Monday in May) for the following academic year.  For more information, please visit the (H)ACER website. Mailroom Clerk 

Sort and distribute U.S. and intercampus mail; maintain logs of registered, insured and express mail; maintain current records of student addresses; must be able to work a variable schedule between 10am and 5pm for a minimum 2-hour block of time; evening and Saturday morning hours available. Event Staff (previously Tech Crew) 

Our Event Staff provides technical support for events at our College Nine & John R. Lewis Colleges. This includes setting up and operating sound, video, and lighting equipment. Our crew is also responsible for arranging tables and chairs for events in our spaces. Hours vary - evenings and weekends are required.

Terry Freitas Commons Staff (previously Terry Freitas Cafe) 

Terry Freitas Commons (TFC) is a fully student-led organization that serves as a lounge and food pantry for all students. TFC also provides the opportunity to provide a welcoming space for people to study, have meetings, and socialize through playing pool, piano, and games. Staff expectations are to supervise the space by ensuring safety, providing a welcoming space, maintaining noise levels, answering questions, doing game checkouts, attending team meetings, and helping students receive pantry items. To support and uphold College Nine and John R. Lewis College’s themes, staff receive the opportunity to entertain and educate students through organizing and facilitating programs. Student Sustainability Assistant (SSA)
